Activities

We have access to the club room every day, but it is mainly used on Wednesdays when we have the adjoining hall available from 3 pm to allow layouts to be set up, with our weekly club night in the evening. The groups working on each layout organise additional meetings when more concentrated effort can be put in. (Usualy these become more frequent and panic stricken as an exhibition date looms and the last change to the layout is still not working!)

The major activity of the year is our own exhibition each October. Each year one or two of the club layouts attends in (rotation), and most of the other members help out with the running of the exhibition and giving demonstrations.

Each of the club layouts typically attends from one to three outside exhibitions a year, which is a good opportunity for the group to go away for a weekend and socialise outside exhibition hours. Often members of other scale groups come along to help operate. In addition some club members have their own exhibition layouts that may need operators.

But it isn't all modelling. As well as club outings to preserved railways and other one-off events, we organise annually for members and their partners a pancake evening, Steam-a-cue (barbecue & live steam railway), Mince pie evening, photo competition in conjunction with other local clubs, modelling competition, and a club dinner (black tie very optional).
