Greenfield Sidings(OO)

Most of our OO modellers are more operators than builders of trains, so this layout has been designed to provide an opportunity for as many members as possible to run trains.

It consists of four separate circuits (Up, Down, fast and slow) plus a substantial fiddle yard at the rear. There is also a small siding complex which leads off-scene to a cassette system, and offers diversion for those of us who enjoy shunting.

The area depicted is “somewhere in England”, where two pre-nationalisation routes join. There is no set time period, so who knows what will be coming out of the tunnel. Since some of us are collectors, certain trains will be “theme” trains, and not necessarily steam trains! We have not really worked out how that Chinese train got through the Channel Tunnel, but it did look nice….

The scenery graduates from agricultural to a closed station that once served a small town, but still retains an industrial connection. The industry depends on what wagons we are shunting at the time.

Since the main purpose of this layout is display moving trains, we can handle twenty trains of various lengths and make-ups. The layout is still being developed, so we perhaps it will be different the next time you see it.

New members are always welcome, whether to help us develop the scenery, or to watch the trains go by.....

The scenery has moved on in the last year or so

Sadly there were not enough houses to justify keeping the station open

Recreating an air of clutter is very rewarding

We like trains, but a layout needs so much more to come alive

The whole point for all of us - running trains!

Fiddle yards are crucial for exhibition layouts.

Methodical wiring and thorough testing are essential
It is debatable whether track setting gauges or coffee are more important. For good track, try both!
