Henstridge

Henstridge, in Somerset, was the smallest station on the S & D J R main line. It opened on 31/8/1863 and closed with the line on 7/3/1966. The period modelled is the 1960s prior to the withdrawal of goods facilities on 5/4/1965. The lack of signals is correct for the post 1940's period -the two points were controlled from a ground frame in the station building. The track layout is correct, but I have shortened the headshunt and curved the track to fit the baseboard. The cattle dock was used by the local coal merchant. The station building and station agent's house have been scratchbuilt using various Slaters, Ratio products etc. The stone road bridge was given a replacement brick parapet following an accident in 1944.

My locomotives are a mixture of renumbered proprietary models, kit built and conversions. At certain times I run a sequence based on a full weekday timetable for early summer circa 1961 plus a few extra workings. The 6 road fiddle yard (version 3!) can just cope with this level of activity.

The road bridge carries the A30 across the line and the infrequent local Southern National bus service from Shaftesbury and the Royal Blue express service to London can be seen. I like modelling buses and other road vehicles, therefore I use modeller's licence to occasionally create an agricultural, steam and vintage rally in two fields near the station.
